Project #2. Week #6. Problems in Costa Rica

In this second project, important topics about the variety of problems existing in Costa Rican society will be discussed. The objective is to create a major analysis of reality seen in our country and from the above be participants in finding solutions to these problems.

Activity #1:

Think of any problem that Costa Rica has. Which one is it? Why do you think it is a problem? Have you or someone else had any problems with that?

One of the biggest problems that exists in Costa Rican society in sexual harassment; it manifests itself in work, education and family atmosphere. Sexual harassment is a manifestation of a series of compulsive behaviors requests for sexual favors directed at a person against his consent. This action can harm people of both sexes. It is considered a criminal act, which is sanctioned according to their gravity and can even lead to imprisonment stalker. Sexual harassment is a series of attacks, which can range from annoyances to serious abuses, which have the purpose of trying to trigger a sexual activity. Of course it is a problem in society, as it goes against the consent of the people and affect their daily lives.

When a person is being stalked, rather obviously react, what to do is not to be intimidated, stay calm and be very firm in the negative to any joke, hint or touching; put distance in between immediately, avoid these companies and report promptly of any sexually harassing behavior. It is noteworthy that if the victim does not feel inconvenienced and approves this conduct, in that case, only in this case the harassment is not considered a crime, and the harasser is not considered a criminal.

In my case, I have never experienced sexual harassment; but I think it is important to provide more information about the complaint process if a person is a victim of these situations.

Activity #2

In this activity the objective was to observe a report of a Chinese news channel but in English; this report, spoke about the great traffic problem in infrastructure and volume of cars in our country.

From that video, the teacher asked a series of questions that we must answer and then a dialogue between all the partners was held regarding road problems in Costa Rica.

What is the main idea of the video?

The main idea of this video is that in Costa Rica are very great problems in the roads. The problems are mainly due to road infrastructure in Costa Rica and the number of cars.

Do you agree or disagree with what the video says? Why?

I agree with everything said in the video, mainly has caused traffic chaos in Costa Rica's fleet of cars is unsustainable. Compared to other countries we are light years away from being competitive in road infrastructure.

What other problems do you think the country has?

The pollution on roads, bureaucracy in government procedures, corruption in public concessions.

Which problem do you think is the most important? Why?

The bad infrastructure and the amount of cars, because Costa Rica is a little country. Besides poor planning causes that road is not fluent, especially in important hours.

What is the country doing to improve its roads?

Share a personal experience with a problem you had

Be very specific and give as many details as you can. Is the country fixing the problem? If so, what are they doing?

On the other hand, was formulated, the possibility of a conversation with a classmate about an experience lived and where we find a problem that exists in our country was evident.

In my case, I referred to a car accident I suffered in 2006; where I suffered cracks in the knee and multiple blows of major severity.

The outstanding problem was the inefficiency of attention in the CCSS, this being a serious and growing problem in the area of public health.

Activity #3

During the day's lessons Monday, June 29 ; Professor decided to allocate conducting a little research about the biography of someone who has made ​​a significant contribution to the development of Costa Rica . In the case of my partner Kevin and myself , we chose to speak of Dr. Longino Soto

“Longino Soto Biography”

Longino Pacheco Soto was born in San Jose, October 12, 1923, he was a cardiovascular surgeon and member of Costa Rica between 1970 and 1974.

Achievements in the area of Medicine

He was director of the first heart transplant surgery performed in Central America.In 1947 he began his work in the Caja Costarricense del Seguro Social, work continued for over 60 years.He is considered one of the most important figures of twentieth century Costa Rican medicine.

Achievements in UNAFUT

Longino Soto was president of the Costa Rican Federation of Soccer, during his administration, Costa Rica qualified for the first World Cup in Italy 90.

Last Years of Life

Dr. Longino Pacheco Soto died on October 13, 2010, at the Catholic Hospital Clinic.

In short, a man who changed the concept of medicine in Costa Rica .

In conclusion, the project helped raise awareness about the variety of problems, political, economic social level afflicting our country. It was necessary to generate a critical analysis in order to generate solutions from the range of education in order to be ourselves the solutions to the problems of the nation.
